The 2005 Ford GT Is A Best Momentum of Classic Car Ever

Hello and all welcome to scene through glass welcome to a beautifully sunny day in germany you find me at shout kalissa an incredible dealership just south of munich i've come here to check out that the 2005 ford gt that's an iconic supercar from my teenage years i also think it could be one of the last great analog supercars and when you think of what other great analog supercars are doing in terms of values this could be a sneaky investment opportunity now obviously we cannot talk about this era for gt without mentioning these quite insane doors i'm sure you've seen them before but just in case you haven't they've got part of the roof attached to them as you can see roof.

Now missing above driver's seat there it is up there on top of the drive door window it looks amazing but it's insanely inconvenient as jeremy clarkson explained back in the day on top gear if you park in a tight parking space you can't get out of this car because that well look how you how are you supposed to get out of here unless you crawl unless you crawl on your hands and your knees and then if you do manage to make it into the car it's the quickest way i've ever seen to accidentally decapitate somebody actually if you are a ford gt owner and you've got someone in your life you don't really like just invite them out for a drive and don't explain how these doors work because before you know it yes they would have lost their head.

Let me show you when i go to close this door i'm going to try and do it slowly so i don't actually decapitate myself but bang there we go i mean yeah that's death isn't it so i find i have to get in and do this might look extreme but it's generally the only way i can guarantee that i'm not going to smash my head ridiculous anyway inside this car is so special if you think it looks amazing from the outside that kind of retro inspired look and feel continues in here amazing layout of dials got these kind of cool rocker switches it feels very driver focused the gear lever.

Angled towards me this little tiny steering wheel no it's an exciting place to be now as i mentioned i see this as one of the last great analog supercars and that's not just because of this manual gear lever we've got a 5.4 liter supercharged v8 just over my shoulder puts out around 550 horsepower and just under 700 newton meters of torque strangely that's not too dissimilar from my f-type r but we've got a lack of electronics in here and all that power going to the rear wheels so the look the feel and the kind of mechanical architecture just give a real old-school.

Vibe to this amazing supercar anyway let's attempt to start it up can i say attempt because it's got quite a complex and convoluted um immobilizer just trying to work out how they go and they are manual seats i thought they were get myself nice and comfortable put the key in the slot come out of first gear immobilizer unlock okay we've got some flashing lights oh that was super easy roll us into life okay let's hit the road now this isn't the first time that i've driven this generation for gt the thing that blew me away first time and i'm remembering now is just how easy it is to drive at slower speeds because of the way the thing looks and and kind of what it represents i think you expect it to be pretty full on maybe a little maniacal and hardcore but it's not when you get up and go it feels just kind of like a mustang the clutch is really nicely weighted.

The steering's beautifully balanced it's a little tough to see out of spatial kind of positioning is interesting to say in the least but in terms of drivability yeah it's kind of a cruiser it's more like a bit of a muscle car than a supercar but i do know once you start to push on this thing really comes to life a lot more than i think the journalists of the day were expecting because let's face it pre 2005 ford weren't exactly making the most exciting and agile sports cars anyway quirky doors amazing interior and good low-speed drivability aside can we just talk about the way this thing looks because whether you're out on the road on track in a car park or in the middle of a forest.

This car has such presence and you've got to remember it's nearly 20 years old looks amazing now if you didn't know this generation 4gt was built firstly to commemorate the iconic 1960s ford gt40 the lemon race car but also to celebrate 100 years of ford that's actually very subtly denoted in the headlight design something you would never notice unless someone told you to look for it we have of course had a another version of the ford gt since this car and the latest generation went back to le mans i don't think this car raced at le mans but it is a lot closer in design to the original gt40 now when this car launched in 2004 it was considered quite a big and wide car and it does still have some girth to it but compared to so many modern cars.

It's a pretty small package aided by the fact it's so low now like i said this car is nearly 20 years old built between 2004 and 2006 the exact same production years as my beloved ferrari 360 challenge tridali and i think this was kind of a rival for the 360 and maybe the chance to darley but pricing wise it was fairly good value in america where they made the majority of these cars it's 150 000 with the kind of nice spec in those days that was about 90 000 pounds so yeah pretty affordable oh let's just make sure that i'm doing everything right here yep and we're rolling okay so yeah pretty good value now since oh there's a bug in the car there's a bug in the car that's going to annoy me all right there you go mate sorry since then values have been increasing uh nowadays for really good low mileage.

2005 ford gt probably expect to pay what three four hundred thousand pounds that's a lot of money and you're probably thinking now or hold on a sec sam if they've tripled in value over the last 15 20 years why on earth are they a good investment opportunity surely kind of missed the boat but no and let me explain why because of this because this is a hands-on full-on supercar how many other cars from this period are we seeing quadruple in value people going nuts for this whilst yes it is three times the amount that it was when it launched i think still goes a little under the radar especially because of the latest generation of ford gt which kind of stole this thing's thunder because this didn't have any kind of racing pedigree.

I don't know why he wasn't held in the same way that that the new car has been those things i think still in america trading for like a million dollars so these suddenly comparison to other cars of that era and other cars with this makeup i think it's looking like a bit of a bargain you might call me mad because yes it is america so whilst this stuff looks good it doesn't always feel great these very cool rocker switches for example interesting and the air conditioning which i'm not having to put on because it's very hot not that effective it's you know i guess it blows some air at you but not a whole load and we mustn't forget that as easy.

It is as easy as it is to drive this car it's fairly impractical to live with i've already mentioned the doors there's also no boot space you can't bring anything with you if you're driving around one of these just a passenger who you may or may not have decapitated when they were getting in the car so it's got its flaws because these cars aren't supposed to be things that you can drive every day they're supposed to be sensitive occasion make you tingle when you get in them and this really makes me tingle it's just fills me with so many ideas of what driving and cars should be it gives me a bit of history gives a bit of future tech for the time it reconnects me with a different era.

Not only the mid-noughties but the 1960s because so much of this is inspired by the 1960s gt40 and the fact that it's a comfortable and nice place to be to poople around and it's just a bonus and who can be a complete monster when you need it to be and actually to enjoy that a bit more i'm trying to find somewhere to turn around here's a test for the turning circle got to be honest not great but we have made it and i'm up and running once again it's just cool this car and it is special 4 000 of them yes made in america but only 100 were imported to europe so if you're driving one of these around here people are like oh my god and whilst power torque is relatively similar to the f-type it feels wholly different and it feels a bit aggy a bit sort of you know yobbish we're trying to find somewhere to yeah stop and demonstrate what i mean by that if i go into first gear rolling star but give it a lot of throttle.

It really picks up when that supercharger kicks in you just absolutely fly and there's a bit of a squirm from those rear wheels look at this and unlike so many american cars show in the corner and it goes yes please more of at the front those the steering this tiny sting was so delightful it doesn't make you nervous at all it encourages you to find more corners and take them faster it really feels unbelievably well composed this thing especially considering its age and the badge on the bonnet i absolutely adore these cars i really do i feel like more people should or maybe you shouldn't maybe stop adoring them let the values come back down.

Because i would have one in a heartbeat especially over the new 4g team i didn't love that car boy i love this we are flying well huge thanks to the legends at schalke so for giving me the chance to drive 2005 ford gt once again i had so many good memories this car that lived up to all of them so yeah truly special bit of kit if you want to see more about shuttles and some of the incredible cars they have in stock.
